Aurecon celebrates its 100 Women in Property participants

Aurecon nominees accepted at the 100 Women in Property sponsorship programme

29 March 2017 - Global engineering and infrastructure company Aurecon is proud to once again support the Property Council of Australia’s ‘100 Women in Property’ sponsorship programme.

Nine nominations from Aurecon have been accepted into the programme with those participating receiving networking, profiling and professional development to further advance their careers, in what is often perceived as a male dominated sector.

“I commend the Property Council of Australia for this initiative. With over 500 nominations accepted this year, it is obviously very popular and only demonstrates the thirst from female talent within the property sector for this type of programme,” says Louise Adams, Aurecon’s Regional Director for VIC/SA/ACT and its Women in Leadership spokesperson.

“Industry sponsors have been vital throughout my career in opening up networks and job opportunities. I think it's incredibly important for women to have sponsors, people who will stand up and speak for you and help you stand out in the organisation,” says Louise, who was asked to join Aurecon’s Global Board as its first female Executive Director in 2013.

Louise adds, “the past year has seen a 2% increase in Aurecon’s female staff representation and a 6% increase in management levels that form the pipeline to leadership positions. I remain dedicated to pushing these numbers up and attaining new levels of achievement around equal opportunity, mentorship and support for women in the workforce going forward. I believe a highly diverse workplace will give us an unbeatable competitive advantage into the future."

As part of an ongoing initiative to champion women in leadership as well as diversity in the workforce, the 100 Women in Property programme actively supports women who demonstrate outstanding leadership and top talent in the property and construction sector, across the country.

Between April and December this year, each participant will collaborate with an experienced property professional who will assist her to grow her industry networks and gain visibility. The sponsor will act as a role model who advocates, together with key influencers, for the participant’s career growth and future success.

Aurecon’s Eleanor Drake, Structural Engineer and a 2017 programme participant says, “As a relatively new engineer, I found the 100 Women in Property opportunity appealing, not only to be able to learn more about the industry, but also to network with other women in property that have ambitions to become future leaders. I hope to achieve a better understanding of the industry and establish connections that will grow throughout my career.”

Amanda Pryce, Senior Structural Engineer at Aurecon and 2017 participant, says “I am passionate about diversity within the industry I work in. As well as being the right thing to do, there are a lot of advantages for everyone involved. I hope to be a role model for women thinking of entering engineering or a related field, and I'm excited to meet, learn from, and share my stories with other women in the property industry.”

Aurecon sponsor and Client Director for Health and Education, Susie Pearn, says, “I believe strongly in the importance of sponsoring and I am delighted to sponsor Aditi Saha, a talented Associate at Aurecon. Aditi has shown strong leadership skills in the challenging on-site roles she has played, demonstrating great resourcefulness and a genuine passion for her role as an engineer”.

As part of the programme, the 100 Women in Property participants will observe a Property Council Committee of their preference throughout the year. This will offer them valuable insight and an opportunity to contribute to the strategic vision of the industry, as well as forums for increasing their sector knowledge, and building a network and profile for themselves.

This year, the Property Council set gender targets for its committees nationally - 40% women, 40% men, and 20% discretionary. Pleasingly the Council exceeded this target announcing 43% female participation in its committees for 2017. Aurecon wholeheartedly supported this target and can proudly state that females make up 50% of Aurecon’s participation in various PCA committees this year.

The Property Council’s diversity initiatives align with Aurecon’s efforts in driving cultural change to embrace diverse and inclusive environments.

“To be future-ready for Aurecon means being innovative and skilled at providing creative client solutions. Innovation thrives in inclusive cultures where inspirational leaders motivate diverse teams. Aurecon and the Property Council have a shared passion for improving female representation in the property industry. As a member of the South Australian Property Council Diversity Committee, I was delighted to see Aurecon’s support of and participation in the 100 Women campaign, particularly the involvement of Aurecon sponsors who are champions of gender equality,” says Abbie Wright, Aurecon’s Diversity and Inclusion Manager.

Aurecon is a Diversity category finalist in the 2017 Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation & Excellence Awards, with winners to be announced at the Gala Dinner in Sydney on May 5.
