Aurecon appoints Jane Moran to support Hunter Region infrastructure projects

Aurecon has appointed Jane Moran as its Newcastle Office Manager to lead its Newcastle team in delivering innovative infrastructure design concepts and engineering advice for the key city-shaping and urban renewal projects

“It is important for young engineers and anyone in consulting to experience what it is like being on site because it is that experience that produces quality design and advice for future projects,” says Jane Moran

01 March 2018 - Global engineering and infrastructure advisory company Aurecon has appointed Jane Moran as its Newcastle Office Manager to lead its Newcastle team in delivering innovative infrastructure design concepts and engineering advice for the key city-shaping and urban renewal projects that are helping to define Greater Newcastle and its future.

Having Moran based in Newcastle adds to the company’s well-established team, and reflects the increasing number of infrastructure projects in the Hunter Region. This, together with the Metropolitan Plan for Greater Newcastle driving sustainable infrastructure growth for the region, highlights Aurecon’s involvement in the development of the city as a vital regional centre for Australia.

Moran will contribute her expertise and familiarity with the region to key projects, such as the design concept for the Warnervale Link Road, which aims to reduce travel times for communities on the Central Coast, and the Rankin Park to Jesmond Early Works Shared Path Bridge, which is a key component in the completion of the final stage of the Inner-City Bypass to remove through traffic from suburban streets.

“I am excited by the opportunity to help grow the skills and resources of the Aurecon staff in Newcastle so that we can continue to deliver future-ready projects and designs for our clients,” she says.

A talented Aurecon engineer and Olympic water polo medallist, Moran has balanced her elite sports life with fulltime engineering, believing the personal and professional learning gained from each career has been invaluable in her overall development and key to her success.

With sharp design skills and strong leadership qualities Moran has honed her craft from working across an impressive range of projects, from Queensland’s first light rail project to the M12 motorway, part of the NSW Government’s development and urban renewal of Western Sydney that will service the planned Western Sydney Airport.

Moran also has extensive project management experience, ranging from Queensland’s Gladstone Regional Council on disaster recovery efforts following a series of catastrophic floods to the 6.5 kilometre duplication of Mona Vale Road, a major arterial in the north of Sydney for the NSW Roads and Maritime Services.

Passionate about ‘lived experience’, she has relocated several times from her home to work on significant projects – wherever they were.

Moran says: “It is important for young engineers and anyone in consulting to experience what it is like being on site because it is that experience that produces quality design and advice for future projects.”

Aurecon’s Regional Director for New South Wales, Scott Powell, comments: “Aurecon is committed to supporting the development of the Hunter Region through its contribution to key infrastructure projects such as the Newcastle Light Rail.”

“Having Jane’s breadth of expertise in project management and design will be invaluable inputs to projects that we are positioning for in the infrastructure, health and mining markets,” adds Powell.
