30 September 2016 - Aurecon’s strategic direction for Africa is centred around the idea of “Being an Inspiration to Africa”. The intent is that this will play out in everything we do as a business, from leading expertise and unparalleled client experience, to taking up our responsibility to play a part in socially transforming our continent. Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives are a key part of this.
In this regard, volunteers from Aurecon Cares, a company instituted CSI programme, recently celebrated the efforts of the doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers and other staff at the Tshwane Rehabilitation Hospital for their continued dedication to public service.
Aurecon Cares donated much needed hygiene care packs and computer equipment to assist in the day to day running of the hospital while volunteers also took time to interact and socialise with patients and staff during their visit.
With a mission to provide “rehabilitation for a better quality of life”, thehospital takes care of a maximum of 79 people at a time for a period of up to 90 days. It provides assistance by offering patients physiotherapy, nursing care, group therapy sessions, family meetings and frequent excursions in an effort to speed up recovery and re-integrate them into their communities, homes as well as workplaces. Out-patient check-ups are also conducted on a weekly basis to ensure the patients’ recovery and continued well-being.
“The work that the hospital has done for me has encouraged me to remain hopeful. I have learned that I can still live a quality life and even take care of my child, even though I am wheelchair-bound. I am extremely grateful for the treatment received because it has given me the confidence to face people and be a functioning member of society again,” says Thuli, a patient who benefits from the care provided by the hospital.
Prisha Khelawon, CEO of the hospital, expressed gratitude on behalf of the staff by thanking the Aurecon Cares volunteers for their time and donations on the day, adding, “We look forward to partnering with Aurecon in future to continue making a positive difference in the lives of patients at the hospital. I thank you for your generous contribution.”
